Unai Pascual

Unai Pascual is Ikerbasque Research Professor at the Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3), Bilbao. He is also a Senior Visiting Fellow at the University of Cambridge where he was a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Land Economy (2002-2013) after having worked at the University of Manchester (2000-2002). He obtained  a MSc and PhD in environmental Economics at the University of York, UK in 2002 with a research grant from the Basque Government. His research involves bridging economics and ecology in complex social-ecological systems and has an active role as advisor to various international bodies on the economics of biodiversity conservation and ecosystem services, including the European Commission, the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP), the UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) and the Intergovernmental Platform of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES). Unai has also been involved in international initiatives such as the Economics of Ecosystem Services and Biodiversity (TEEB), the UK National Ecosystem Assessment and the Japanese sub-global ecosystem assessment. He has an honorary fellowship at Bioversity International (former International Plant Genetic Resources Institute) and is associated to various scientific bodies including the AgroBIODIVERSITY scientific committee of DIVERSITAS. He has also been elected twice to the European Board of the European Society of Ecological Economists (ESEE). Unai’s research appears in more than 100 book contributions and peer reviewed articles in journals such as Science, PNAS, Global Environmental Change, Environment and Resource Economics, Ecological Economics, World Development, etc.
